Official Selection – Queer Kampala International Film Festival

We are so proud to announce that Private Life is an Official Selection of the Queer Kampala International Film Festival (QKIFF) 2018!  The event will be held from December 7th to December 9th in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.  This will be Private Life’s premiere screening in Africa!

We are especially thrilled to be a part of QKIFF.  Homosexuality is illegal in Uganda, making the festival illegal and forcing it underground.  Here is some history from the festival…

The inaugural Queer Kampala International Film Festival was held in December of 2016 at different venues in the country’s capital Kampala.  Security measures included screening of attendees, keeping the venues secret and mobile daily.  The attendants had to go to a different venue in the morning and afternoon.  Venues were announced within hours of the event. Encouragingly, the LGBTIQ community, supporters and sympathizers hung in there and religiously followed us to the different venues attracting a turn out of more than 836 visitors within a space of 3 days.

In December 2017, the first day of the second edition of the festival opened in Kampala and was a huge success, the festival sold out.  On the second day, however, it was raided by the Uganda police.  The Festival resumed two weeks later, but held in private spaces and with only trusted persons invited.
